Patricia Kucker
I am an architect and educator with over thirty years of teaching experience. I have always been passionate about plants and the role landscape and gardens have in conversation with architecture. History and the process of design inquiry along with a capacity for serendipitous discovery define my teaching and learning approach for the creative arts. In my second career as an artist and maker, I am developing these skills in my botanical-printing practice. I live in Philadelphia, a city that was once a botanical paradise during the eighteenth century and is often considered βthe cradle of horticulture.β The city is home to numerous public gardens, parks, arboretums, and urban gardeners, which serve as both a resource for plant material and an inspiration. Exploring and promoting sustainable dye practices with natural materials and pre-industrial craft-based methods inform my creation of botanical textiles.
