Patricia Kucker

I am an architect and educator with over thirty years of teaching experience. I have always been passionate about plants and the role landscape and gardens have in conversation with architecture. History and the process of design inquiry along with a capacity for serendipitous discovery define my teaching and learning approach for the creative arts. In my second career as an artist and maker, I am developing these skills in my botanical-printing practice. I live in Philadelphia, a city that was once a botanical paradise during the eighteenth century and is often considered β€œthe cradle of horticulture.” The city is home to numerous public gardens, parks, arboretums, and urban gardeners, which serve as both a resource for plant material and an inspiration. Exploring and promoting sustainable dye practices with natural materials and pre-industrial craft-based methods inform my creation of botanical textiles.
